Any criminal justice system that adheres to international human rights, will only allow people to be punished, if they have been promptly charged with a recognizably criminal offence, tried and convicted in fair and transparent proceedings. Many of the measures introduced by the Tories in the UK , more particularly their unelected vice royal Paterson in British Occupied Ireland include torture and internment without trial. Amnesty International considered that the conditions of British internment amounted to cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment. This was also the conclusion of the UN Committee against Torture and the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment. It has also emerged that a "shoot to kill" policy has been authorized for police in the UK after it being common practice in British Occupied Ireland for many years.

The Commissioner of the Council of Europe stated that the UK had a tendency to "consider human rights as excessively restricting the effective administration of justice and the protection of the public interest." adding "it is perhaps worth emphasizing that human rights are not a pick and mix assortment of luxury entitlements" and "their violation affects not just the individual concerned, but society as a whole; we exclude one person from their enjoyment at the risk of excluding all of us." The Council of Europe agrees including its Secretary General and President of its Parliamentary Assembly. A pattern is emerging where the UK announces tough counter-terrorism measures running contrary to international human rights standards resulting in other brutal regimes then saying they need what the UK then in turn uses to support its initial proposals.
Respect for human rights is the way to security, not an obstacle. Respect for human rights and not violations are part of the solution, which the UN Secretary-General has stressed: "While we certainly need vigilance to prevent acts of terrorism... it will be self-defeating if we sacrifice, other key priorities, such as human rights in the process." Amnesty International’s message to the UK government is that it must respond to its attacks on human rights by defending, respecting and protecting human rights. The Dulles brothers were guiding hands of US foreign policy long before John Foster became Sec. of State. In 1918, racist Woodrow Wilson had appointed Dulles legal counsel to the United States delegation to the Versailles Peace Conference, where pleas from representatives of the colonies for recognition to speak were disregarded and Wilson made US recognition of Korea as Japanese Imperial territory official.
In the 30s John Foster had been an attorney and partner in the firm Sullivan & Cromwell doing business with I.G. Farben (the chemical manufacturer of "Zyklon-B' poison gas used in the Nazi death camps) and its associated Nazi-era corporations. Sullivan and Cromwell thrived on its cartels and collusion with the new Nazi regime. In 1933 and 1934, when the Nazis' s barbarous course was already obvious, Dulles led off cables to his German clients with the salutation, "Heil Hitler". On June 17, 1950, Dulles, as a special representative of the secretary of state, toured the 38th parallel, the US-created line between N. and S. John Foster Dulles and the firm of Sullivan & Cromwell, had been a share holder and legal council for the UFC for decades. In Henry Kissinger, Rockefeller found a political operative with an international and domestic perspective similar to his. Kissinger's involvement in Indochina started long before his appointment (one assumes on a nod from election financing Rockefeller) as National Security Adviser by Nixon. Kissinger condemned Khrushchev's "free city" idea, under which West Germany would fall under UN control, and advised against a US commitment to eventual German unification through free elections. While still at Harvard, as consultant on foreign policy to both White House and State Department, Kissinger toured Vietnam in twice in 1965, and twice 1966. [White House Years, Henry A. In 1965, the year of the brutal US invasion and occupation of the Dominican Republic, Rockefeller and other businessmen formed the Council of the Americas to stimulate economic integration in the Americas and was subsequently founder and chairman as well of The Americas Society, and The Forum of the Americas.

Five days after President Johnson, who had felt it politically necessary to order the slaughter of millions in the name of anti-communism, announced he felt forced not to run for re-election, Martin Luther King was silenced by a bullet to his head. The Wall Street investor owned US sources of information would bury King's condemnations with his body and wars maintaining and enabling investments have continued on into Syria and Iran.
Kissinger, as Sec. of State and National Security Adviser of a Nixon elected on the promise of achieving "peace, began to implement "Vietnamization' that would supposedly permit a gradually withdrawal of US troops for an expanding combat role of the South Vietnamese Army - a blatantly phony utterly preposterous policy reminiscent of the US purportedly expecting Koreans who hated the US installed ruthless dictator Sygnman Rhee to fight for American invaders of their country to help kill their northern brethren, all on top of knowing the US recognized Korea as Japanese Imperial Territory for 40 years. Similarly, Vietnamese would be expected to fight well in the army created by their cruel French colonialists masters along side equally racist American invaders against their own Vietnamese hero Ho Chi Minh.
How is it such fairy tale impossibilities go on being swallowed as credible policies of presumed intelligent US government officials regarding Cuba, Panama, Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, Pakistan, Libya and now Syria?
Kissinger orchestrated the most massive bombing in world history, dropping 3,984,563 million tons on an area inhabited by some 50 million people, twice the 2 million tons dropped on Europe and the Pacific in World War II. He dropped 1.6 million tons on South Vietnam, as many as Lyndon Johnson at the height of US involvement; quadrupled the bombing of Laos, from 454,200 to 1,628,900 million tons; initiated widespread secret bombing of previously peaceful Cambodia, including B52 carpet bombing of undefended villages, for a total of 600,000-1 million tons; and vastly expanded the bombing of civilian targets in North Vietnam. Along with North Vietnamese Le Duc Tho, Kissinger was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, which Tho rejected and Kissinger accepted.
When the military coup in Argentina was already launching deadly reprisals and "disappearances" against political opponents, Kissinger assured its leader that Washington was an ally.
In 1976, Kissinger cancelled a letter that was to be sent to Chile warning them against carrying out any political assassinations. Kissinger has evaded legal summons by investigators in France, Spain, Chile and Argentina and requests in 2001 by Chilean High Court judge Juan Guzmán, and Argentine judge Rodolfo Canicoba, in regard to his involvement in secret multinational assassinations of Operation Condor. In May, 2001, police handed Kissinger a warrant at the Ritz Hotel, Paris. Kissinger left for Italy the next day, however the summons still stands.
On Kissinger's watch the United States government supported Pakistan in the atrocious and hopeless war with its with its independence seeking Bengali East, (now Bangladesh), and had Ford order a stupid disastrous and inhumane vengeful air attack on Cambodia. Kissinger and President Ford met with Suharto of Indonesia, giving US approval for the Indonesian invasion of East Timor that resulted in the massacre of 200,000 Timorese.
Under the direction of Henry Kissinger US National Security Council Study Memorandum 200: Implications of Worldwide Population Growth for U.S. Security and Overseas Interests (NSSM200) was completed in 1974 and adopted as official U.S. policy by President Ford in 1975. Originally classified, it was later declassified and obtained by researchers in the early 1990s. It contains some typically insidious inhumanity one might expect from a Rockefeller associate as merely good business.
The basic thesis of the memorandum was that population growth in the least developed countries is a concern to U.S. national security, because it would tend to risk civil unrest and political instability in countries that had a high potential for economic development. The policy gives "paramount importance" to measures to control rapid population growth which the US deems inimical to the sociopolitical and economic growth of these countries and to the national interests of the United States, since the "U.S. economy will require large and increasing amounts of minerals from abroad", and these countries can produce destabilizing opposition forces against the United States.
Thirteen countries are named as particularly problematic with respect to U.S. security interests: India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Turkey, Nigeria, Egypt, Ethiopia, Mexico, Colombia, and Brazil. The report raises the question of whether the U.S. should consider preferential allocation of surplus food supplies to states that are deemed constructive in population control measures.
"Wherever a lessening of population pressures through reduced birth rates can increase the prospects for political, economic, and social stability, population policy becomes relevant to resource supplies and to the economic interests of the United States. . . . The real problems of mineral supplies lie in the politico-economic issues of access, terms for exploration and exploitation, and division of the benefits with host countries.
Young people, who are in much higher proportions in many LDCs, are likely to be more volatile, unstable, prone to extremes, alienation and violence than an older population. These young people can more readily be persuaded to attack the legal institutions of the government or real property of the "establishment,' "imperialists,' multinational corporations, or other-often foreign-influences blamed for their troubles. We must take care that our activities should not give the appearance to the LDCs of an industrialized country policy directed against the LDCs... avoid the appearance of coercion."
Kissinger's quip about the Iraq/Iran war (a horrific Reagan-Runsfeld supported US proxy Saddam Hussein eight year long invasion of Iraq in which a million would die) was "It's a shame they can't both lose."

Zbigniew Brzezinski's greatest treachery, and he brags about it, was having Carter order CIA to fund, arm and train fundamentalist terror against a women-liberating popular socialist government in Kabul in order to scare the Soviets into coming to its ally's aid militarily, and then, inviting and funding jihadists from everywhere to come into Afghanistan to begin what would be thirty two years of mayhem and destruction for this poor nation - and later producing the 9/11 attack and all the subsequent US atrocities in the name of 9/11 elsewhere that are still ongoing and promised to continue. Carter's public image suffered from the failed Special Forces invasion attempt to free the US embassy hostages in Iran, but apparently the reputation of his adviser did not. In 1985, under the Reagan administration, Brzezinski served as a member of the President's Chemical Warfare Commission. From 1987 to 1988, he worked on the U.S. National Security Council--Defense Department Commission on Integrated Long-Term Strategy. From 1987 to 1989 he also served on the President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board.
President Reagan's Kissinger Commission Report 1/1184 reads, "situation in El Salvador continued to suggest the possibility of a direct US intervention. A sudden collapse of the government army ... is possible. With respect to Nicaragua, economic, military and political pressure will be maintained with the goal of forcing the Nicaraguan government to abandon some of the basic goals of the revolution. Those who have taken up arms are the Somocista counterrevolutionaries trained and financed by the US government ... In 1988, Brzezinski was co-chairman of the Bush National Security Advisory Task Force, when Kissinger, speaking to the Maryland Chamber of Commerce at the Omni Inner Harbor Hotel in Baltimore stated, "An allied victory in Kuwait will provide a great opportunity to bring peace and stability to the Middle East. This is something America can be proud of."
Brzezinski was prominently critical of the Clinton administration's hesitation to intervene against the Serb forces in the Bosnian war, strongly advocated NATO expansion and coming out in support of the 1999 NATO bombing of Serbia. Kissinger also supported Clinton continuing NATO bombings of Serbia.
When asked by President Bush Junior's speechwriter why he had supported the Iraq war, Kissinger responded: "Because Afghanistan was not enough. The radical Islamists want to humiliate us, and we need to humiliate them. The presiding image of the "war on terror" - the burning towers collapsing on the television screen - had to be supplanted by another, the image of American tanks rumbling proudly through a vanquished Arab capital."

Prior to joining the Bush administration, Scowcroft was Vice Chairman of Kissinger Associates, Inc. He has had a long association with Henry Kissinger, having served as his assistant when Kissinger was the National Security Adviser under Nixon, from 1968. Imagine how much more greater the scope of his mentor Kissinger.

Most traditional Irish Republicans would agree that the movement is currently plagued by numerous splits and infiltration, both among prisoners and activists. In essence the age old British tactic of divide and conquer is working very well for them currently in Ireland. MI5 and MI6 agents having infiltrated not just the prisons but almost all republican activity and have also covered its tracks, with infiltration of human rights groups and all of the Irish media, including alternative media. First they infiltrate and then gain control of key positions within these organizations to control all dissent. This poison has infected almost all areas of Irish public life.
Currently on the British side of the peace process equation, the Historical Enquiries Team (HET), in conjunction with the PSNI , are in the process of framing criminal charges against people who were active as combatants, when the war that was meant to be now ended in British Occupied Ireland, was still raging. Subpoenas served against the Belfast Project archive at Boston College, is an example of this activity but it is not by any means the only one. The political blessing was clearly given by the Tories, who regard PSF and the process generally as 'lefty crap'. They essentially have decided to resume the war and to put people who fought against them previously in the war in prison.
Dissident Unionists with whom Owen Paterson the present Secretary of State, has been working tirelessly for years to co-opt into his Tory party, now being led by Nigel Dodds and Maurice Morrow are only puppets, being used by the ‘securocrats’ of MI5 and MI6 who work quietly, ceaselessly, behind the scenes directing the current Anti Good Friday Campaign, which in essence, is a de facto abrogation of the peace deal by the British. Along with the sinister elements working quietly behind the scenes Foster and Morrow, have never supported the peace agreement and do not want it to work as they continue to prevent a sustainable just peace in Ireland to continue instead, with their Protestant State for a Protestant People, i.e permanently British for their mentors.

To confirm Tory intent to destroy the process, it has become clear within the past year that Paterson, MI5 and the PSNI are rolling out a covert form of Internment without trial in British Occupied Ireland, aside from the obvious ones in the instance of Marian Price and Martin Corey, they are remanding without credible evidence, many political activists, perceived as a threat to the Stormont state. Lengthy waiting times, courts which unquestioningly accept police statements, provided by war motivated British military intelligence and the political policing of the paramilitary PSNI system that detains, charges and remands republicans, with little or no evidence at all. This in fact is a process in which all freedom loving citizens who prove inconvenient to a scum state, face life in prison without due process. Sadistic animal killers and hunters of the the Tory horsey set in Irish and British society are now leading these draconian practices. Millionaire Tory fox-hunting aristocrat, Owen Patterson has overseen the kidnap of Marian Price and Martin Cory, both elderly, gravely ill, the innocent victims of political conscience, to orange sectarianism and British bigoted hatred of Irish republicans and equality. While they are currently not mainstream republican, no one has a monopoly on the truth or Irish republicanism and they are both long time members of the Irish Republican Movement, who have given all in the service of the Irish Republic.
On the other hand most seasoned Irish political activists agree, that unity for Irish republicans, is critical to attain victory and self determination for the Irish. To resist the repression of internment, political policing and what is basically still an orange fascist British mentored statelet, republicans must stick together or work together or use some form of symbiosis to suceed.The fact that the current Stormont state now has to rely on political Internment, betrays the underlying corrupt and backward nature of that setup. Evil may be a word on the flip side of religious sectarianism fostered by the colonial British but it it also spells LIVE backwards and the poison of British infiltration of all things Irish can be compared to a terminal infectious disease in Ireland currently. What the Octopus can Teach us about National Security

First there was the octopus that mimicked fish; now researchers say a fish is copying the octopus.
When American soldiers were killed in Iraq by improvised explosive devices, or IEDs, it was the slow, bureaucratic, centralised nature of the Department of Defense that failed them, says Rafe Sagarin, a marine ecologist at the University of Arizona. It was only once soldiers were authorised to make their own decisions – a move known as the Petraeus Doctrine, after the general who invented it – that they could communicate effectively with locals in order to find out in advance where IEDs might be.
Why was a marine ecologist suggesting ways of protecting armed forces? Well, according to Sagarin, the Petraeus doctrine is exactly the sort of thing an octopus would do. Despite its well-organised central nervous system, many of an octopus's reactions are decentralised. Its individual cells make their own decisions for dealing with the immediate situation – enabling, for example, the invertebrate's famously varied camouflage. Switching to this kind of adaptive tactics provided greater protection for soldiers in Iraq.
Sagarin's insights about the relevance of the octopus to matters of national security are captured in his book Learning From the Octopus: How Secrets from Nature Can Help Us Fight Terrorist Attacks, Natural Disasters, and Disease. The book is more than just speculation: he spent years running National Science Foundation-funded workshops that included biologists, ecologists, anthropologists, first responders and national security experts, all of whom were charged with the task of figuring out how to make America's military and security apparatus more adaptable.
The unusual story of how a marine ecologist ended up in Congress, as a science advisor to US Representative Hilda Solis of California's 31st district, and later as an author of a book that's grown to be a cult favourite among national security types, began during the events of 9/11. When the twin towers of the World Trade Center went down, Sagarin was in one of his most beloved habitats – a marine tidepool in Monterrey Bay, California.
"On the day of those attacks, I was feeling very far removed from what was going on at in Washington and New York," says Sagarin. But he'd always had an interest in policy, so he applied for and received a Geological Society of America Congressional Science Fellowship.
That led to an article in Foreign Policy called Adapt or Die, in which he declared: “If the genus Americanus wants to overcome this latest challenge to its existence, it must adapt its defense mechanisms accordingly. What better way to do that than to harness time-tested Darwinian theory to the cause of homeland security?”
Tentacled tactics
The lessons Sagarin ultimately derived from the natural world surprised even him. "I'm a cynic about generalism in biology and ecology, because systems are so complex," he says. "It took us a while to come to the point where we had any rules at all."
The first rule he derived was, as in the case of the octopus's camouflage and the Petraeus Doctrine, the importance of decentralisation. This, he notes, was the opposite of what America was doing in security at the time, for example with the creation of a centralised, Washington DC-based Department of Homeland Security, which was founded expressly to be a clearinghouse for formerly-dispersed decision-making about security.
The second principle Sagarin and his collaborators noticed was the importance of symbiosis. Nearly all organisms depend on at least one or two – and in some cases many – other species. As an example of how this manifests in security, Sagarin cites the Middle East Consortium on Infectious Disease Surveillance (MECIDS), which brings together Israeli and Palestinian doctors in order to track the spread of infectious diseases like the H1N1 influenza virus. Given the intense political differences between the two countries – the organization spans both the Gaza Strip and the West Bank – its as unlikely a collaboration as you'll find, and yet it works because "they're intensely focused on solving this one set of problems, and nothing else," says Sagarin.
Another lesson from the octopus is that adaptability requires redundancy. "We think of redundancy as wasteful and inefficient, but it's everywhere in nature," he notes.
Defensively and offensively, an octopus has no shortage of coping mechanisms – camouflage, powerful arms, intelligence, a sharp beak, symbiotic toxins and a cloud of ink. When escaping, it can squeeze into a tight space, blend in with the background, jet away, and, in the lab at least, grab two halves of a coconut shell and sequester itself inside them.

Just as importantly, Sagarin discovered what it is that organisms don't do. In general, they don't plan, predict or try to be perfect. When Sagarin tells this to the members of strategic planning departments in government agencies, it leads to "a lot of consternation and grinding of teeth," in part because it's so counter-intuitive.
Indeed, if there is a single message that sums up all of Sagarin's work, it's that organisms realized long ago that the world is a much less predictable place than humans would like to believe. What Sagarin calls the "non-normal distribution of truly interesting events," which was explored at length in Nassim Taleb's book The Black Swan, has relevance to how we'll cope with everything from disease outbreaks to climate change.
"We spend a lot of time in planning exercises, making predictive models, and in optimization routines," says Sagarin. "All of which have essentially been selected against in nature, because they're incredibly wasteful when you live in an unpredictable world."
Organisms and humans should plan for things that occur with some frequency; buildings in earthquake-prone areas must be ready for tremors just as surely as mating Horseshoe crabs need to know the phase of the moon. But the biggest dangers are those we've yet to identify, and if nature is any guide, the only way to prepare for them and respond to them effectively is to have an abundance of flexibility and skills which can be combined to meet any challenge.

I am neither Gaeilgeoir nor Catholic - but I am still Irish

During my life I have had a sense of wanting to “fly by those nets”, to avoid the constraints of nationality, language and religion.
My family came to Ireland in the early 19th century from Scotland. My paternal grandfather was in the army in Ireland and in India. Having come home from the famous Nile expedition, he was posted to Wexford, where he died in 1909. I was born there 30 years later.
My parents, who were adult in 1922, as citizens gave the new State their full, but not uncritical, loyalty. Since I was a boy I have wanted to free myself from the narrow, self-conscious and extravagant national pride all around me.
I was born just 17 years after Independence, so as I grew up, I heard at every turn the espousal of Ireland and everything Irish, but always felt that self praise is no praise. Some teachers indoctrinated children with a nationalism that amounted to hatred of Britain – and we wonder why violent republicanism still rears its ugly head.
I once heard a language enthusiast on radio say that unless you spoke Irish, you were not a proper Irishman. According to this principle, I am numbered among the 95 per cent or more defective Irish people. However I am in favour of preserving the spoken language as far as possible.
Two native-speaker friends independently told me that sometimes so bad is the Irish on radio and television that they have to turn it off. Having been brought up a member of the Church of Ireland in the post-Independence period of triumphalist Catholicism, I was made to feel an outsider. For so many people, in Ireland and outside, Irish is synonymous with Roman Catholic. Brendan Corish, leader of the Labour Party in the 1960s, went even further and said publicly: “I am a Catholic first and an Irishman second.”
I resented being seen by fellow countrymen as being Irish but not the full shilling. I resented that being Irish, foreigners expected me to sit lightly to the law and to have an ongoing affair with alcohol. How then am I Irish?
I am Irish pure and simple. I am as Irish as the most extreme republican, as the greatest enthusiast for and most fluent speaker of the Irish language and as the most fervent Catholic.
I am neither proud nor ashamed of it. I am glad I am Irish and I know I could never live contentedly outside Ireland.
There are characteristics of Irish people that I appreciate: generosity to the afflicted, welcome to the stranger, relaxed approach to living and a particular sense of humour. However, none of these is exclusive to our people.
We are not God’s gift to the world. We are one of a multitude of peoples on the planet who live together within particular national boundaries. There are characteristics of many Irish people I do not appreciate: for example, the selfishness of being so laid back as to be unreliable and believing that the destructive use of alcohol is funny.
I’m not a Kerry republican, a Dublin 4 nationalist or an Ulster or any other kind of unionist. I’m not a Gaeilgeoir or a Catholic.
On the other hand I am not Anglo Irish in any sense – I don’t possess or ever did possess, a horse! Neither have I an emotional home in England. I don’t want to be other than Irish. I am simply a human being who was born on the island of Ireland – and I’m glad that I was.
